Guides

Over the many years of guiding the Algonquin back waters and vast upper and lower sections of the Ottawa River, we, as  avid guides and anglers of this area would like to share some of our experiences in this region. These sensational surroundings, complemented by some very interesting clients have made great enjoyment of going out on the water.  Work, work, work, cast and reel, cast and reel, you know how it is.

Dogcool.jpg (4003 bytes)Terry Carlin Jr. - I started guiding full time in this region since graduating college in 1986 and I have had the opportunity to work with many other guides over the years.  Approximately half of my trips are geared toward fishing the Upper Ottawa - Holden Lake.  Small Mouth Bass are most prevalent as well as Walleye and Northern Pike.  This part of the river is to say the least, expansive. The other half of my trips are spread out between smaller lakes and river systems in Algonquin Park and the surrounding wilderness area that sometimes requires four wheel drive, determination and a hard throttle to reach.

Fish421.jpg (18652 bytes)Mark Scott - Guiding from Canada's Yukon territory to the Ottawa River Mark has made his home in the Deep River Area. As the Mountain River most requested lower river guide Mark has over 25 years experience catching his favorites - Walleyes and Sauger, as well as Small Mouth and Northern Pike. But if your into catching some of the less familiar fish but non the less very entertaining, then he can take you on a tour through his infamous "Cat Fish Alley" or take you to one of his best Sturgeon Flats.

Fishhkd.jpg (16811 bytes)Phil Shutt - Talk Muskellunge, fish with Musky  Phill knowledgeable on  the lower Ottawa regions and interior musky lakes, with a partiality to the Mackey Bay Inlets just west of our trail head.  Early season fishing will find him in rocky "narrows" for Small Mouth Bass while a few backwaters will be his specialty later on. Prepare to use top water!  A.C. Shiner and twitching Rapala's are most favored techniques.  A Twenty-five pound Musky this season made the Chalk system an important part of his repertoire for the '03 season.

Frog41.jpg (19552 bytes)Steve Borell - As The new recruit of our group and by far the most enthusiastic,  he   fishes the Ottawa River hard, but his favorite is always the big water and a few of the network of  lakes, such as the Chalk River which holds an abundance of Muskellunge. Unlike the rocky shores of the Ottawa, the Chalk is loaded with hydrilla cabbage weed and lilly pads, standing timber and winding creek passages. This water system also has trophy class Small and Large Mouth Bass along with numerous Yellow Perch.

Fishy.jpg (2347 bytes)Jeff Wilkins - Guiding on the Ottawa at every chance, Jeff usually fishes the lower areas around the big presquilles, down by the Schyane River entrance and as far as the Petawawa River spillway. Small Mouth, Muskies, Northerns and Walleye all fall prey to his techniques. Haling from Southern Ontario Jeff makes his home in our Northern Algonquin region where he can enjoy these awesome outdoor hunting and fishing opportunities.

Turtle3.jpg (21683 bytes)David Fischer - A native to this area all his life, Dave takes every opportunity to take guide tours. Dave works as a Mountain River director setting up guide trips for other guides and as he gets the chance he will take on his own tours. Frequently on the Ottawa but more so in the smaller back waters edging the park is where the majority of his trips take place. From Bissett Lake in the west to the lake of Tall Pines in the Petawawa National Forestry Center in the east. Dave finds Bass fishing his favorite while Walleyes come a close second. Winter fishing will find him Speckled or Lake Trout fishing through the ice or snowmobiling into a new lake just to see what's there..
