Ottawa River & the Algonquin Park Region

Welcome to one of most beautiful waterways of Eastern Canada.   The Ottawa River is the back drop for many dedicated fishing guides all the way from its headwaters at lake Temiskaming, to where it joins the St. Lawrence River as it   flows north east into the Atlantic Ocean.  For many Miles along its mid section the Laurentien Mountain Range rises above the Northern shores enhancing the views with towering pine ridges, rocky cliffs, and tremendous waterfalls. In these   intoxicating surroundings it is sometimes difficult to remember that this is the work place for us guides, and our number one purpose is to bring the  tightening of lines and the surging splash and breakwater of the local residents  below, to the surface  above.  A quick photo and an easy release of these trophy fish insures a promising future.

This Web site has been designed by Terry & Michele Carlin, Ottawa Valley long time residents and outdoor enthusiasts. We live with our three children   just west of the town of Deep River and work in the "Psychological Regeneration"  field by offering and servicing outdoor relaxation programs along the shores of the Ottawa River.

Please note that no animals or animal  parts were used or threatened in the making of these web pages.

The Fishery

The Ottawa River has many kinds of fish species. The most common that we have found from the area of the Petawawa River entrance in the east to the Bissett Creek Bay  in the west are the following; Walleye, Sauger, Northern Pike, Small and Large Mouth Bass and Muskellunge. Also prevalent but much less sought after are Sturgeon, Channel Cats, and White Fish. But there's more, a body of water this vast has also become home to Lake Trout, which has only recently over the last seven years been stocked below the Rapid Des Jouchims dam in the numbers of several hundred thousand plus. We also haul in the odd Red Horse, Speckled Trout and Carp. This means that when your fishing the Ottawa and you set the hook, ... well you just don't know what you could be coming up with!

This and just west of the high lighted areas of the Ottawa River is where our guides knowledge is taken from. Also along the North Eastern zones of Algonquin Provincial Park and several of the Quebec interior tributaries.  All guides services in this area start out from the Mountain River Docks  through Terry's direction located 5 miles west of Deep River at our Trail Head at end of Moores Road.  Here there is a tackle / bait  shop and fleet of   Bass / Walleye style boats awaiting the avid angler. Guides services, taxi trailers (drop off to interior lakes) and other adventure trips can be booked at this  base camp. Continuing on  from this Trail Head can see your party on  Algonquin Park day trips canoeing, Bass Boat - Muskellunge tours and Ottawa River expeditions that await the most enthusiastic of travelers.

Guided fishing tours are seasonal from the middle of May to middle of October with the different guides having varying availability. Each will have a different favorite species and times of year. Also if you have a question we'll put our thoughts together and try to answer any questions about our area or fishing tactics and presentations.  Sometimes we will even put together some winter ice fishing and snowmobiling tours in March, it's great fun so inquire and leave a message if your interested.
